Phishing - What is it?
'Spoofed' email designed to panic you into divulging your personal access information to online accounts. As the Internet grows, people find both wonderful, and unfortunately, criminal, ways to use technology.
In typical "Phishing" attempts today, criminals send out emails that looks like it comes from a legitimate financial institution. They may even warn that your account has been accessed fraudulently. They provide you with an Internet link to "check your account".
When you click on the link, you go to a site that may look like the legitimate site-they have 'scraped' the graphics from the real site. But what you may in fact be doing, is providing your online access credentials or personal information to a scammer.
